How Discord shows your banners
Discord has two banners that are easy to mix up. The server banner is a 16:9 image at the top of your server's channel list, with the server name written across its top. The profile banner is a 5:2 strip, 600 × 240 px, at the top of a member's profile, with their avatar overlapping its lower left.
Discord asks for a server banner of at least 960 × 540 px in 16:9. We export 1920 × 1080, the same shape at twice the size, so it stays sharp on large screens. Server banners are a Server Boosting perk (Partner servers get them too), and an animated banner needs a higher boost level, so check what your server has unlocked first.
Server icons and avatars are circles, 512 × 512 px each. Discord accepts avatars as small as 128 × 128, but a 512 upload stays crisp everywhere it appears.
- Keep the top of a server banner calm. The server name is drawn across roughly the top fifth, so put the focal point in the middle or lower half.
- Profile banner: art on the right. Your avatar covers the lower left, so words and logos go right of center.
- One symbol for an icon. Server icons are tiny in the server list; a single bold shape reads, a scene does not.
- Make each banner separately. The server banner is 16:9 and the profile banner is 5:2, so one image cannot fill both.

Why does my Discord banner & server art look cropped or blurry?
Almost always the gap between upload size and display size. The recommended upload is 1920 x 1080 px, but Discord renders it smaller and crops it further on mobile, so anything important near the edges gets cut and an undersized upload turns soft when scaled. Upload at the full size and keep text and logos in the middle, away from the edges.
What is the difference between a Discord template and a generator?
