How to Make a Social Media Banner (No Cropping)
Banners are wide, shown at different widths on phones and computers, and often partly covered by your profile photo. Use the exact size, then put your words where nothing covers them.
- Use the exact banner size. Each platform has its own shape: X and Bluesky 1500×500, LinkedIn personal 1584×396, Facebook 851×315, YouTube 2560×1440, Twitch 1200×480, Discord server 1920×1080. The full list with what covers each one is below.
- Find what covers it. On X, LinkedIn, Facebook and Bluesky, and on Discord profiles, your profile photo overlaps the lower left of the banner. Facebook covers and LinkedIn company banners show only their middle on phones, and YouTube shows only a center strip on computers and phones.
- Put words right of center or in the middle. Where the profile photo sits lower left, text right of center and vertically centered stays visible. On a YouTube banner, keep it inside the central 1546×423.
- Let the edges be background. Edges crop on some screens, so fill them with sky, color or texture that can lose a slice without losing meaning.
- Export at the exact size. Download at the platform's pixel size so nothing is stretched or softened. The free resizer does it with your own photo, and AI All Social can paint the banner for you.

Why the same banner looks different on every screen
A banner is one image shown in containers of different widths. A laptop shows it wide, a phone narrows it, and a TV may show more of it than either. The platform keeps the middle and gives up the edges, which is why a centered layout survives and a layout spread edge to edge does not.
The second thing that changes the picture is your own profile photo. On most profiles it sits over the lower-left part of the banner, so the most natural place to start reading, the left, is the one place your words cannot go. Right of center is the reliable spot.
FAQ
Why does my banner get cut off?
Wide banners are shown narrower on phones, so the platform trims the sides and keeps the middle. Keep words and logos centered and use the edges for background.
Where should text go on a social media banner?
Right of center and vertically centered on X, LinkedIn, Facebook and Bluesky, where the profile photo covers the lower left. In the center 1546×423 on YouTube.
What size is a YouTube banner?
2560×1440 px, with a 1546×423 center area that shows on every device.
Can one banner work on X and Bluesky?
Yes. Both are 1500×500 (3:1) with the profile photo over the lower left, so a banner designed for one fits the other.
What size is a LinkedIn banner?
1584×396 px for a personal profile (4:1) and 4200×700 px for a company page (6:1). They are different shapes, so make each separately.
